Blurb:
Nisha Jenkins is a Layer, gifted with special powers by the Orisha of love and intimacy, Oshun. Now she has her second assignment: help a hapless werewolf leave his pack so he can marry the woman he loves. Trouble is, Kevin hasn’t been entirely upfront about what she’ll have to do to help him win his freedom. Now she’s face to face with the Alpha of the pack who’s demanding his traditional right to bed Kevin’s Moot date — and that’s Nisha.

Alastar Canagan is a powerful man (well, some of the time!), and not used to being turned down. What’s a Layer to do?

Excerpt:
Inside his office, the door shut, the Alpha turned to her with a disarmingly gentle smile. “Let’s start over, shall we? I’m Alastar Canagan, the Alpha wolf of Kevin’s pack.” When she merely nodded, he went on. “So, he was honest with you about what we are, I see. But he didn’t tell you that the Alpha has the right to bed the first female each male in the pack dates?”

“He most certainly did not,” Nisha snapped. Then she shook her head. No point in biting this guy’s head off, he wasn’t the problem here, and he was obviously trying to sort this out. “I’m sorry. You’re right, let’s start over. I’m Nisha Jenkins, and I have… a sort of a calling. I help people sort out romantic problems, you might say. Kevin came to me for help, and said he just needed to prove he had a girlfriend before the pack would let him leave.”

From the way Alastar shook his head she could tell he thought that had been bullshit. For a moment she stared, fascinated by the thickness and sheen of Alastar’s black hair. It was so deeply black the highlights looked blue, and his eyes were the most astonishing blue-black, framed by long lashes.

He was watching her watch him, and smiling. Almost preening, really, under her gaze. Vain, then, but she couldn’t help smiling back. When he spoke again, there was a new teasing note in his voice. “So now you know what’s really expected of you, are you going to bail?” He moved closer and circled her slowly, stopping behind her to lean in close and sniff her hair. She shivered all over at the heat of his breath on her neck.

It took a second to focus enough to realize he’d asked her a question. “I should. That little weasel! But… I have a duty.”

Alastar laughed, a low throaty sound that made the backs of her knees go wobbly. “I’ve bedded a lot of women. Most of them, I fancy, slept with me because they wanted me. Some of them, I know, slept with me because they wanted something from me. But you, little one, will be the first one to fuck me out of duty.”
